Connemara primary school student rescues US school's Educational Passages trans-Atlantic mini-boat
A miniature sailboat created by Kaitlyn Dow, a student at Waterford High School in Connecticut, was recovered by by 8-year-old Méabh Ní Ghionnáin.
The path taken by The Lancer during it's 5 month journey.
The boat, the Lancer, was prepared by Kaitlyn and other students in UCONN ECE Marine Science at Waterford High in coordination with 4th grade students at Quaker Hill Elementary School. This boat, created as part of the Educational Passages programme, was delivered to the RV Neil Armstrong on 30 April 2021 and was later deployed in Atlantic waters on the afternoon of 7 May 2016.

On September 17th 2016 the Lancer finally made her approach towards Galway where it was later discovered 8-year-old Méabh Ní Ghionnáin, a resident of Droim, Leitir Móir, Connemara, Co. Galway. At the
EMSEA 16 conference, which took place in Belfast from the 4th to the 7th October, Méabh and her family met with Dick Baldwin of Educational Passage.
