This year’s theme: UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Clusters & the Triple Helix

The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted in 2015 with 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. Of particular note for BTW2019 are:

  • SDG6: Clean Water & Sanitation

  • SDG7: Affordable & Clean Energy

  • SDG14: Life below Water

  • SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals

AORA CSA celebrated World Microbiome Day on June 27th with a Marine Microbiome focused workshop in Brussels led by our Icelandic partners RANNÍS. This was the first AORA trilateral dialogue on Marine Microbiome with representatives from Canada, Europe and the United States joining in the discussions.

In its inaugural year, the 'Go Atlantic Blue' campaign has had an incredible response with more than 50 landmarks and buildings coming on board in Ireland alone. These include airports, State buildings, lighthouses, castles, aquariums and even a windmill.

Galway, 23 May, 2019: Famous buildings and landmarks across Ireland will ‘Go Atlantic Blue’ over the weekend 7-10 June to celebrate our connection to the Atlantic Ocean, as part of World Oceans Day. The global day (Saturday 8 June) connects people worldwide in celebrating the ocean, its importance in our lives and how each of us can protect it, no matter where we live.
