The Marine Biotechnology work package of the AORA-CSA supports coordination and ensure wider Atlantic participation in terms of Marine Microbial Ecology and Marine Biotechnology Research & Innovation. This work package is led by Dr. Sigurður Björnsson , RANNÍS.
Sigurður is the Head of Science and Innovation at RANNÍS the Icelandic Centre for Research. This centre coordinates and promotes Icelandic participation in International Cooperation in Science and Technology and interacts with corresponding agencies and research councils in other countries. Sigurður studied chemistry and chemical engineering at the University of Iceland and in Lund Sweden (LTH). Sigurður directs the main competitive funding schemes offered in Iceland and he participates in a number of European Research Area Networks (ERA NETS) related to ocean affairs and other framework activities within the EU; he is the Icelandic contact point for FP7 Marine Biotechnology ERA-NET (ERA-MBT) .
Within the AORA-CSA, Joaquín provides scientific, technical and logistical supports to the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance. Internally Joaquín works with all of the Work Packages and in particular with AORA-CSA WP 5 Ocean Observation, WP 7 Aquaculture, WP 10 Shared Access to Marine Research Infrastructure, WP 11 Knowledge Sharing Platform and also WP 8 Ocean Literacy.
This work package prepared a short bibliography of European research activities/projects.
