Our objective is to organise networking and conference events to support inclusiveness and to provide a platform to engage the widest European and North American input in terms of research policy makers and funders, research performers, major regional and pan-European research networks, and including industry and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) representatives.
Another equally important function of this work package is to make provision for unscheduled networking and expert workshops on topics not currently in-hand but which may emerge as priorities.
This work package is led by Dr. Peter Heffernan, CEO of the Marine Institute Ireland and an instigator of the Galway Conference "The Atlantic – A Shared Resource" (May 2013) which resulted in the Galway Statement on trans-Atlantic Research Cooperation and the establishment of the Canadian-EU-USA Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance. Dr. Margaret Rae and Ms. Patricia Killian make up the Secretariat directing the Coordination Support Action on a daily basis. Dr. Rae has over 20 years’ experience in different organisations, project management has been a significant feature in her experience; Dr. Rae spent seven years in the Irish Beaufort Marine Biodiscovery Research Programme. Ms. Killian has a wealth of experience in public administration, corporate affairs, and organisation of events and dissemination of information.
Dr. Heffernan has overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the Coordination & Support Action working with the Action Secretariat and the Action Work Package Leaders that constitute the Action Management Team.
The AORA-CSA was publicly launched in April 2015 at the Palais d’Egmont, Brussles, Belgium along with all the Galway Statement follow-up coordination and actions and the research projects funded with the first of the EU Horizon 2020 Blue Growth calls.
