The Ocean Observation work package of the AORA-CSA supports coordination and ensures wider Atlantic participation in terms of Ocean Observation Research & Innovation. This work package is led by Dr. José Joaquín Hernandez Brito, PLOCAN.
Joaquín is the Science, Technology and Innovation Managing Director at the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands, Spain. He is a Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria where he was also the Dean of the Marine Sciences Faculty, Director of Technology Transfer and the Science and Technology Park as well as Vice-Rector for Research. He has also served as Director of the Institute of Marine Sciences & Innovation, Canary Islands, and as Director of the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands. PLOCAN participates in marine research projects and leads the EU’s 7th Framework research project NEXOS.
Within the AORA-CSA, Joaquín provides scientific, technical and logistical supports to the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance. Internally Joaquín works in particular with AORA-CSA WP 10 Shared Access to Marine Research Infrastructure, WP 11 Knowledge Sharing Platform and also WP 8 Ocean Literacy. Externally as well as being a member of the AtlantOS consortium, Joaquín also ensures wider Atlantic participation in the EU Horizon 2020 AtlantOS research project .
